Lower Teen Crashes By Sleepign In




High schools in Virginia Beach, VA start 75-80 minutes earlier than high schools in neighboring Chesapeake (w/ similar demographics). Research found Virginia Beach crash rates were significantly higher and peak crash times were one hour earlier than peak Chesapeake crash times.

A previous post highlighted the benefit of starting school late, to afford for teens sleeping needs.

Don't Drive On Election Day!!




Researchers studied presidential elections from 1976-2008 and compared them with the Tuesdays before and after election day. 24 additional car crash deaths and 800 extra, serious injuries nationwide occurred on election days - even more than on Super Bowl Sunday or New Year’s Eve. The individual risk also exceeded the potential of casting the pivotal vote.

Cameras Cause Crashes




Research argues that cameras at traffic lights increase the likelihood of car crashes because more drivers break to make a late stop at red-light camera intersections.

The report notes that North Carolina, Virginia and Ontario all had increased crash rates and injuries associated with red light cameras.
